St. Martin's Church | The Churchyard | The Fry Family | Nonconformity in Desford | Desford Free Church | The Strict Baptist Graveyard | William Gadsby
The parish church of St Martin’s is the oldest building in the village. It is possible that there was a building here in Anglo-Saxon times and, although not mentioned in Domesday Book, a small church may have been here in the Norman period. The font is Norman. There have been many alterations and restorations over the centuries. The 17th century onwards saw the rise of Nonconformity in the village. Different groups came and went but today the Baptist tradition is upheld at Desford Free Church.
